Trella Hemmerly – 1986-03-25

Had breakfast on Beech deck and wandered down into woods. Scilla blooming but leaves left from last fall are mud covered and have smothered grass in many areas. Gathered up flood debris for 2 hours.

Howard Slack called to say Ergas had an offered $26,000 and wanted me to make another offer. I told him I could not afford to keep bidding against a millionaire. So there goes my dream.

Wrote H. C. Reed who used my 1823 Christmas story in the Delaware Gazette. To science fair with Dave and Oleta. Dave upset at no superior.

It is 12:30 he is rearranging his pins waiting for clothes to dry and pack. 76° sunny full moon.

OAHSM Board meeting pretty boring- rehash of the executive board long range planning meetings. Bob Thornburg dominated my resources committee meeting with irrelevant haranguing.

Dave worked on his science project on electromagnetism until 3:00 a.m. Typed his own 15-page research paper and made drawings

Howard Slack called- Ergas of Vancouver, British Columbia who owns Wood Valley is interested in the 55 Acres. Slack asked me to up my offer so I went to $25,000 what I had planned to pay in the beginning.

Warmed up to 58. Spent morning at computer- MCHS letters. Dave up at 1:30 when Oleta called wanted him to take her to Lima to get a suitcase for England trip I said no and offered to loan her mine. Fixed omelette for lunch and at Dave’s suggestion ate on Beech deck. Then drove over to Castle’s on 309 and walked south along his lane to the North Boundary of the 55 acres. Found the stone. Woods brushy and open- walked into Nickle’s woods. Hiked for over an hour and only got around North End of my lands. Came home and wrote account of our trip. Watched “Dallas The Early Years.”
