Another hot day- only cool place on deck- had breakfast on upper deck and lunch on lower deck.

Wrote more thank you notes, letters, mounted Salute clippings so I could photocopy them better.

Met Mary at shop at 4:45 and dashed out to Landmark to buy 10 lb copper sulfate for $12.50. Then to Han’s Place for rigatoni. To shop to copy “Salute” material to send to James Miller and other things for OAHSM awards. To cottrell’s- John had received $100 check from Lewis Conkle as donation in appreciation of the Salute.

Irma Campbell’s cancer has spread to lungs and liver.

Finished planting the last flat of bedding plants- white begonias in lowest terrace. Soil so compacted I had to mix sand and peat in each hole.
Feel sure Ray Switzer won’t be writing thank you notes to those who helped the Salute, so I did starting: “Just wanted to add my thanks to Ray switzer’s.”
Heat so oppressive that I spend leisure time in rec room.

Got order for Hildreth Genealogy from Winnie Gohde, wife of Glen, who is son of Howard, son of Gaitha and George, daughter of Uncle Meck*- mother’s brother. Live in Clinton, North Carolina- summer in Littleton Colorado.

Every morning Howard shovels one of bags of the sand from the sandbagging. Puts it in the wheelbarrow and then I distribute it on the terrible jackwax [soil] on the terraces. Worked in garden until 11:00- another shot of Roundup on weeds and walks that didn’t show signs of dying.
Expected David but he called from Cincinnati about 7:00 and said he wasn’t coming up for the installation of the new computer system at the shop. Had an impression Kass discouraged it.
