Mary out and 12:30 and we headed up Route 4 to Lorain to tour the frigate USS Oliver Hazard Perry FFG7. Lake area beautiful along Route 2. Had to wait nearly 2 hours among the 5,000 who toured the Perry from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saw only the two open decks and wheelhouse. Dinner at Vermilion at Elberta’s- Lake Erie perch delicious. Bought peaches and home via 395 [sic – proabably 598] into Galion. Surprisingly hilly. Home about 8:00. called on answering machine from Pete belt as light blue olds wagon with everything. wanted me to pay $7,600 plus my car. I offered $7,000 because I don’t want third seat.

Wrote to Dave and Kristi. Letter from Kathy with copy of Kristi’s last letter.

To Marion County Republican Women’s Club luncheon at noon to speak on Marion’s celebration of Bicentennial of Northwest Ordinance and U.S. Constitution.

To C&D Chevrolet & Olds in Mount Gilead to see Cutlass Cruiser that Pete Belt called me about. 6 cylinder- sure quieter and peppier than the 4 cylinder in my Ciera but no electric windows or seats and a demo so offered to look for one at same price $7,000 with my car.

Saw news report on frigate Perry at Lorain this week. Called Mary and we’ll go tomorrow.

92° half inch rain
Across river to back of property where Ralph Boger, Carl Lehner and Norm Fogt were loading a half ton boulders on Harry Bard’s trailer to take to McKinley Park to mount cast aluminum Bicentennial marker.

Picked up eyeglass ear protector for Howard at Loeffert’s. Left tape and minutes at Willis Nye’s, and Huber biography at Dr Mautz. Took Virgil with me to pick up my car at Inskeep after meeting Linda Banks at Harding home. She had framed posters of Northwest Ordinance 1787.

Got pruners at Sears, cookies and dress at Meijers, three goldfish at Woolworths. Lazy afternoon.
