Up at 6:30 to get ready for a big day. At 7:45 the electrician from Seiter Electric appeared instead of Thursday when he was supposed to come. Took time to show him where to install door chime in my room, electric connection for river pump, and check attic and basement wiring.
To Huber board meeting at 9:00- no minutes from April! Stan Winck’s resignation because I left his name off founding list on organizational program really upset me and I left crying. Carroll Neidhart so understanding. To Columbus to speak to retirees of College of Agriculture and Home Economics of OSU on Northwest Ordinance and U.S. Constitution. Over 100 and many expressed surprise at how interesting U.S. history was.
To local history office to listen to their woes about Jim Horner and his correspondence course. Stopped at Buehler’s in Delaware. Sonjia roses on kitchen table from Carroll when I got home. Willis Nye had called twice to see if I was okay.

Temperature 89 High- thunder but no rain evening.
Up at 7:00 and worked on dBaseIII files until 8:30. Walked in woods, listening to birds, but the canopy has closed- too many leaves to see any. Finished setting out impatiens. Moved most plants out of greenhouse under weeping crab. Chased a semi-rig out of my parking area across the road. Watered newly planted grass. Cooked Cube steaks, fried potatoes and broccoli for lunch with Howard. Napped from 1:30 to 3:30 and back to computer until 8:00. Called Ruth Mosher about her WordStar problem. Got ready for Huber meeting and talk tomorrow.

Transplanted more flowers into Terrace beds. Used trailer cart that Mary gave me and hauled gallon jugs and water and good dirt across road to plant golden plate tansy. All prairie plants from roots are growing- prairie dock, soledago regida, meadowsweet. No sign of seedlings. Mowed among evergreens. Found several Mallard nests with eggs broken- raccoons? Took rikde to Claridon Prairie to photograph results of burn last Friday. Already grasses are greening but no sign of many species- liatrus clumps okay.

Roughed up front lawn, planted grass seed and covered with straw Helen gave me. Watered with an oscillating sprayer from house pump well. Set out cleome and nicotiana plants that Bob Harter gave me.
Mary picked me up at 3:15 to go with Jordan’s to Mount Vernon to see dogwood- a little past prime. Foliage among blossoms, but still pretty. Bad dinner at Bland’s Wellington restaurant. salmon cakes inedible. Home via Route 3 to Loudonville and Route 37- so pretty.

Slept until 10:00 dreaming about a doctor who looked very perturbed when he found I had a node on my labia.
Used dBaseIII to create labels and message for postcards for Huber board members. After I mailed them I drove to Mrs Waite’s Woods to see the masses of trilliums. Much brushy growth following Messenger thinning about 5 years ago. In my woods south of river the PawPaws are full of blooms and camasia starting to bloom. To Fall Fair committee meeting at Helen Kaufman’s and she gave me bale of straw. Drove past Claridon Prairie that burned last Friday- already new growth.

Rain .25”- toads singing
I gardened while Kathi washed clothes and packed. Spent some time in attic- got Kathi’s things in one place and disposed of Dave’s trunk that had top cut off. Lunch on deck. Watched toads seeking mates, pointed out pink trilliums to Kathi. Picked violets for Kristi. In at 5:00 to send Dave a package UPS and met Mary for supper at Isaly’s. Dave called Kathi and me to wish us happy Mother’s Day. He sent Kathi six roses.
Kathi and I picked Mary up about 8:00 a.m. and left for Cincinnati in my wagon. Took Route 38 south of Marysville to I-71 and made it from Marion in two and a half hours. Took Karen a pot of creeping phlox she said it was first time anyone mentioned Mother’s Day. She had a picnic packed with unusual Community sandwiches and we ate it at the reservoir at Eden Park on the grass. Sarah went with schoolmate Jane to Zoo. David, boys and Suzy went to dinosaur show at Museum. Karen, Kathi, Mary and I toured four of the eight homes on Clifton tour. Left Haldeman’s at 5:30 and home by 9:45.

When she called him to thank him I talked with Dee for first time- marriage at 18? not very smart. Kathi and I watched ducks, picked violets and persuaded some boys from Wood Valley not to catch frogs. With Mary all pm clothes shopping for door mirror.. Kathi bought me a new bail type corn popper. Kristi called about 9:30. Recognition over- she got 13 wings from upper classmen.
