Frustrated by inability to use Drive A – got the stuck disk out, but new one won’t go in. This keeps me from using Foxbas. Called David & he tried to talk me thru FoxPro commands. I want report of volunteers only – Finally created a new database MCHS Vol – what a waste of the first day of new year – I need to learn Foxpro – get an easier program or a new computer-

Mary brought out a copy of Dispatch story that Joan Yazel gave her. Also got one in mail from J. D. Britten & phone call from Bob Keller saying he’d save it for me. Kasws called saying Jim at Claprood was bringing up a copy. Also a letter from Ginnie Hayden in Newark about it! – The power of the press!

Sent Kristi & Tony a congratulations card. [Also sent] financial statement to Narional City Bank for Edward Huber Assoc. line of credit. Letter from Whirlpool – grant application declined. Call from Willis Thomas – been in hospital 4 days. Fever & sore throat – feel awful.

Call at 8:30 AM from Shirley Carmean from Columbus – saw article in Columbus Dispatch with my picture – said I look exactly like her mother whose mainden name is Romine* – coincidence! – Kensel & Opal Clutter over to pick of cardinal flower plants that Bob Harter left for him. Toured gardens for 2 hours – exhausted – slept in chair & late for supper with Mary at Wendy’s.

[* this would be no relation, since Trella’s maiden name is Hemmerly]

Downloaded Ohio Historic Inventory & National Register of Historic Places forms and typed in the info John Kalb, Carroll Neidhart & I had compiled since 2005. Need exterior & interior photos – Jim Carpenter will supply.
Dave Matyac stopped by. Brought me a rechargeable flash light. Walked with him to inspect seeds on lantana, new Hardscaping, gazanias, etc. Amazed at growth of paulownia tree. He can’t reach the top.
David arrived about 4:15 & by 5:00 we were at Perkins Restaurant where Mary Merchant Gruber and Kaye Moore (Lorain, OH) were waiting. Kaye’s father, Walter Moore was a confidant of Don Williamson when he found the Carrie Phillips letters from W.G. Harding – But Kaye said ‘We couldn’t tell anyone!’ Gale & son Jim, Karen Kelly & Carol Bowman & husband ate at another table.
David & I picked up Jim Carpenter and were at OSUM Maynard Bldg by 6:15. Should have purchased James Robenalt’s book then! Sold out at end of program.
Scott Spears introduced Robenalt & John Dean was live on screen from California. He wrote the introduction. Very fair evaluation of Hardin’s presidency & accomplishments – Suggest Carrie Phillips spied on US Army camps in 1916 & reported to Gedrman officers she had met on earlier visits to Germany. I wrote my Nan Britton theory of using Phillips letters as basis for her supposed correspondence with Harding – In question period I gave Robenault the paper & asked if he would like to shake hand that shook the hand of Harding – he did – and lots more p[eople. Home by 9:30 – DH back to Cincinnati.
