Back “[illegible looks like mvest]” some better. Vivian took good care o’ me. Trella workin’ all day. Hazel Chase and John Gill here p.m. – nice visit. Tonite, Paris & Shran [?] here – they & Trella took me Axthelm’s. Rocky made special trip to make bed harder – thanks!

Back trouble the worst. Bathed self largely, a.m. Paris & Sandy here p.m. & evening – Trella working on Mother’s Day. Vivian Adams* here tonite to take care ‘o me a day or two. Trella not here yet at 9:40.

Some miserable, for after getting rid of early enema, I had gas pangs & back ache tonite. Juanita (?) stayed p.m. while Trella to town. Stumbos & Hutchmans here evening. I read Muhlestein’s* new Iris catalog.

Home about 2:30!! Cold out, but things looked so good to me! Ray Hemmerly here, laying tile! Mr. Deyson* Helping (Mrs. Deyson cleaned house for Trella). Dozed, ate mushrooms for supper! Poohed yet, tho.

Miserable day. No sleep except after codine. First enema & couldn’t expell it. Reading some of Teale’s “Circle of the Seasons”. (Made 8 colonials for Caledonia festival & took kids to it in evening.)

Had 6 hours sleep after a codine [sic] pill. Changed bandage. Walked out to hall & down 2 doors. Wrote 2 poems. No more morphine. Visitors included Paris, Dad, Sandra, Mary, Rocky, Mrs. Howard, Trella (Webbs at Acres about 4 with 15 redbud – planted on both sides of reiver. Paris brought a peach tree.
