94 Sunny wind 7 mph
Spent afternoon taking video & snapshots
Hipsher’s Tree Service (3 men) came about 12;30 – Told them David requested white oak not be cut – Dan Gilsor (Urban Forester of the Dept of Natural Resources) returned my call about 12:45 just as they were ready to start cutting the trunk. He advised not cutting it now & to get advice from a registered tree firm on stabilizing the tree. Made Hispsher mad when I told him – Dumped the load of chips on top of dirt – not in hole – left logs on grass for firewood – Even tho he had a whole pickup to sell for firewood. But at least ? of the 15’ diameter tree is still standing. And despite Hipsher’s warnings that it could fall any time they didn’t make any effort to stay out from under it with wind @ 15mph. I wonder if putting the swing on the tree caused the splitting?
Wrote up; Exec Comm minutes for Sept 3 meeting. Called Helen Geyer to see if Charlton had reported on Slate for Officers – Had sent her nothing. Supper with Mary at Turroff’s – EHMA Board meeting – I made the critical motion with much coaching to negotiate to purchase Lincoln Mercury property for museum & headquarters. Passed unanimously.
