I have steered me clear of hobbies
Without dodging work, of course–

Hobbies are a thing with which
Teen-age girls take no chances.
Forgoing stamps, the little vamps
Collect admiring glancesl

Who has more than one hobby is welcome, for, brother,
With eating, I cannot afford me another.

It takes one for hunting; it takes one to fish;
It takes one for selling the elegant dish;
Another for boating, and several to drive;
And one for just helping your dog to survive.
Pedalling takes one, and paddling does too;
Caught necking without one, it’s jail-house for

Making fun of mine.

Patiently, contentedly,
He catches butterflies;
Sorts and mounts and studies them
While he identifies
Each smallest one. They are,
Besides these happy hours,
Geology, geography,
Summer, sunshine, flowers.

Enthusiasm so alive!
It keeps his nerves and heart intact-And
himself young at eighty-five.
