If I have railed against the way
The world is using me today;
If I have frowned because success
Eludes my grasp; or happiness
Stays coyly just a much-sought prize
I covet with my hungry eyes,
It’s time I faced the facts again:
Who caused the wound should feel the pain.
Today what effort have I made
To boost my carcas up the grade?
Did I just curse my failing luck,
And pass the ever-present buck?
If I was tame in my assault,
Then was it luck that was at fault?
Who missed the bus can travel late
And yet arrive, who’ll sneer at Fate!
