Set out tuberous begonias and impatiens on north side of front porch. Weeded, made up more combination pots. Reggie Teetor out to get myrtle to use as ground cover. Had call about saving Civil War statue at Cemetery that blew over and burst, what to do with pigeons banded, when is committee going to meet on new Marion County History and for Police Journal, where is Helen Luvisi’s order for 9 geraniums. Wrote the cousins about July 16th reunion.

Wednesday May 24th 1978 Christy called collect for practice. They are not going to Don’s.
Flood coming up through woods and Howard called at noon saying it was up to third step.
Made-up combination pots and worked with Mary on getting up orders. Nice to have someone else planting them.
Decided to buy the Apco copier $1,700. Have almost $5,000 in checking account and all bills paid for the month. Payroll Monday will take $4,500 want to pay $1,000 dividends and should have five thousand more coming in this month!

David called about noon from Cincinnati. They got in about midnight Monday. Left Yellowstone Saturday AM. Gillette, Wyoming Sunday AM. Sioux City Iowa Monday AM. Trip cost about $1,700- $800 rental on motorhome 6700 miles, 17 days.
Cheryl running statements on new copier. Slower than Pitney-Bowes but each copy cost $0.04 instead of $0.08. Net savings $0.02 per copy. Will give 400 trade-in on Pitney Bowes. Much better copy.
Took geraniums for table decorations to Altrusa. Boring “personal safety” film.

Mr. Cottingham brought dry copier in for Cheryl to use in billing. Several wedding appointments.

Set out petunias in new bed along rock wall.
Left at 10:30 to pick up mother and Mary to go to Forest- The Freight House- for dinner. Met Loren and Jessie and had the buffet- $4.50 just like Quest Club picnic! Paris and Helen just happened in and joined us. Then to Loren’s to get rhubarb and asparagus. Then to Patterson Cemetery to plant Rocky’s grave. Then to Jackson Center* and planted David and Sarah amberley’s Graves. Stopped where Uncle Roy lived and took pictures. Only barn, pump and pine left. House gone. Howard gone to bed when I got back at 4. Dreary all day and cool 50s- But sun shone late.

Two weddings at St Mary’s and one at Lee Street House of Prayer. Scared Cardinal off nest under deck- two eggs. Watched female Baltimore Oriole pulling fiber from debris for nest and saw Barred Owl in Sycamore tree by pond.

Lillian baked a rhubarb pie and cleaned plain rhubarb for me. Had morels, corn on cob, ham, Jello and pie for supper!

Sorted slides for talk to 60 third graders at Oakland School. Donald Lawrence had asked me and she will help on new Marion County History. Helped on boutonnieres for prom. Shop full all day. Did St. Mary’s wedding. To bed at 9:30- exhausted.

Paris here at 8:15. In his truck drove down to Woods in Delaware Dam Area just north of 229 on bridge. Tree swallows over pond at edge of woods. He had found 35 Morels here yesterday. We found three he missed under Hawthorne about 200 ft in the woods. Warblers everywhere Bay breasted, Blackburnian, Connecticut, Canada, Magnolia, Tennessee, Redstart, Scarlet Tanager, rose-breasted grosbeak. Stopped at Wait’s Wood but no luck. Had morels Paris brought, chili, ice cream and strawberries. Gary Oyler out to sell me silks. Picked up house and set table for 30 here for Quest Club picnic.

To Smorgasbord at 11 to attend distributive education luncheon as guest of Mike Martin who couldn’t be there as he is sick with measles. His mother called that he had a temperature of 103 and won’t be back to work until Monday.
Sorted out artificial flowers and foliage- getting inventory down.
Willis girl and new husband in with a two-page list of what she thought was wrong with her wedding. Demanded a 50% reduction in cost. She created the problems by insisting on flowers that are not grown! Objected to her usher’s help me carry things in.
Supper at Turoff’s with gang. Last time in old building they will move Sunday. Howard mowed lower lawn for first time. Looks gorgeous.
BBB helped pick up Audubon magazines at Edith Killers to ship to Philippines.

Really not too much Mother’s Day to straighten out. Guess I underestimate my gang.
Ate supper at Arby’s and then to Barbara Bogg’s for MCHS board meeting. Ted Myers hopeful of getting True Foundation to put Henry True’s library in old library building.
