Monday September 11th 1978
Bought Tonya a crock pot for shower gift $20. Took copy to Hall-Beck’s for yearbook. To mothers at 4:30 and Mary drove us to Loren and Jesse’s to see Francis and Stella. Jesse served formal dinner just like Aunt Effie’s in her dining room. Nice visit left at 8 and got to Tanya’s shower at Laura’s at 9.

Sunday September 10th 1978
Kathy and kids called to wish me happy Grandparents Day.
Flight of 50 or more hawks over Bills’ about 6:30. Walked acres with Howard. Algae is taking over duckweed on pond. Hope it smothers it. Howard’s seedling chrysanthemums are starting to bloom. Worked from 12 to 4:30 on MCHS yearbook. Took planter to Jim and Roxie Smith for rescuing my boat from River. Then to Hutchmans for Bill’s birthday dinner. Flachs, Eda and Dave’s family and Mary Heininger there. Bill and Erma, Flachs and Mary all joined Historical Society! And Delores and Erma will help with Country Store at Fair!
Dave passed kidney stone early today and got out of Hospital.

Saturday September 9th 1978
Al Tozer, Carroll Neidhart and Ellen Pratt at shop when I arrived. Al’s camera setup in wedding room for copying photos and projector in show room to entertain. About 15 people brought photos to copy and one brought me a photo of Uncle Abe Hammerly! Got it at a flea market. Gave them a Hemmerly’s postcard. Took about 50 pictures including mine and postcards belonging to Louis Dutton. Did wedding at St Paul’s Lutheran at 5 and stopped by the one at Kensington Nazarene.

Thursday September 7th 1978 Hot 87 degrees.
Wrote letters to Professor J?, Mr. Costello, Lolita offering to send Philippine Journal if they reply. Alicia’s is already sent- album with 100 pictures. Several calls about history. Found my pictures of prairie marker dedication at Camera Club room at Doctors’ Park. Have searched for two weeks. Howard stung by about 15 yellow jackets while mowing. Put soda on them. To Quest Club dinner. 24 of 26 members there. Worked on talk for Tri-Rivers Horticulture class

Wednesday September 6th 1978 Hot 89 degrees
Called 3 girls back in for interviews- all good. Hired Gail Fields for 40-hour plant job and Diane Zacharias (Tri Rivers student) for D-6 flunky. Sue Faust turned down 30 hour week job.
Wedding appointment. Dinner at Turroff’s with gang. Then to Hall-Beck’s with Bernard Brooks to cut paper to use for indexing and to punch my Philippine Journal. Back to shop- price 45 boxes of Randall shipment. Home about 9. “Roots” on TV. To hospital to see Dave. May have to operate if Stone doesn’t pass.

Tuesday September 5th 1978
Al Cohen- Lyon ribbon salesman took all A.M.. P.M. interviewed 6 girls for plant Department job. Diarrhea all day so took Pepto Bismol and went to bed at 6:30.
Took $500 Marion Power Shovel check and $300 Marion Federal and about 10 orders for history to John cottrill. Decided to acknowledge borders with postcard.

Monday September 4th 1978 Labor Day
A perfect day weather-wise, blue skies and doing-wise too. Photographed the grasses I collected yesterday. Wrote article for MCHS bulletin about Palace 50th Anniversary. Cooked liver and corn for lunch. Escorted Phyllis Malo and Mary Jo Cusic around Terradise- they brought the typed list of members for program book- 237 names. Mary and mother came while they were here & Paris, Helen and Margaret Ann dropped in about dark. Worked on abstracting Bowen-DeWolfe house info from Marion Milling abstract.
