Trella Hemmerly – 1980-10-13

Monday October 13th [Pennsylvania Genealogy Trip]
June and I picked up Marilyn at her home in York New Salem. Met Jim -her tree man husband- and then into York. About 10 blocks in town center is an historic district and deserves it. Pure 18th century. People at York Historical Society Library very helpful and soon found that John Baker probably married Catherine Mummert. Not Mummery as we thought. Couldn’t find any marriage record but copied Mummert info in case we hook up. Lunch in York and drove past blocks of row houses Circa 1750, 1780, 1800, 1850, 1900. Very interesting town. Back home to put roast in oven and June and I headed for Hanover to visit Hanover Historical Society. Nease House which was furnished by antique dealers. Different one in each room. All 18th Century Furniture and prices high. Coffee grinder $95- brass Kettle $75- both like mine. Then to Abbottstown North toward East Berlin. Left on Mummert’s Church Road and Cemetery which was full of Bakers and Mummerts 18th and 19th century. Marylin and family to Ulle’s for dinner. Jim has ideas on carbon dioxide on trees to make healthy. Didn’t know it was already being done.

Friday October 10th
Got desk cleaned off- haircut and set at 2:00- I still think it’s too curly.
Ran all day- book money to John Cottrell- visited mother- she’s still reliving her girlhood romances.
Home and cleaned out refrigerator for supper.
Called Kathi- boxes of cones & Manzanita arrived. Sent her $110. Told her Howard was reweaving the seat of the German chairs and I would send them to her for Christmas. She was delighted. Bob has refinished the Duncan Phyfe table and these will go with them.
Finished packing- bed 12 midnight.

Tuesday October 7th
Conference with Judy [Etter]-some good suggestions. -Eleanor spending 3 hours cleaning(?) -Employee who stays until 6 being responsible for getting cooler into shape- scrubbing front room floor- but what she really wanted to tell me was that Chris Kennedy has no morals! Mentioned Greg’s [husband] opinion of her several times. Could it be they resent someone else thinking of buying the shop?
Finished 275 red and black bows for mums for Harding homecoming. I didn’t like the number 22 wire and 3 yards ribbon Diane used for the bows for Marion Catholic last week.

Monday October 6th first killing Frost impatiens and begonias gone
Talk to Weed and Seed Garden Club at Ulrich’s on Clark Road- almost in Hardin County. They loved me- bought everything I made.
Virginia Howard and I met in parking lot behind Walgreens and determined spot for Norman Thomas birthplace marker.
Called Rita Erickson to see if she could go with me to Connecticut- she can’t- too involved with trying to unravel Erick’s business. He would not let her work in the shop- rr handle any money. She can’t find bank books- knows nothing of his Investments- finds accounts receivables years in arrears and people getting mad when she tries to collect. Says she can’t trust either Debbie or John Dix- both want raises and loaf. She really needs a confidant- told her to call me anytime.

Sessions for 10 to 11:30, 1 to 3:30, 4:30 to 6. All fabulous and fantastic. Bridal Show beautifully staged with trellis and lighting. Old English Finale- castle with banners- all designers in costume. But the designing ideas just poured forth.
Dinner at Miller’s- really great for average of $6.50. Soup, entree, salad, rolls 2 vegetables, drink and dessert all included.
Left Cleveland just after 6 and was in Galion at 8 but with the 30 mile detour to deliver Judy[Bucyrus], Mary (Morral) and Pat, Marion I didn’t get home until 9:30
