High 64 rainy
Peculiar Christmas – Filled Dave’s stocking “Hung by the chimney with care”, guitar basic book and strap – diary – candy bars – gum. Howard made me 3 plaques with his original designs in brass nails.
Dave gave me the wooden tray he made in Industrial Tech. Finished very poorly. Kass’ gift was a crystle [sic] from House of Design. Brenda Eisman gave me a box of chocolate molded bells, trees, santas, etc.
At 12:00 went to see Mother. Took her my red “booties” & an african violet to hang on her plant support that Mary gave her. No restaurants open so went to Mary’s for pancakes & more popcorn in their air popper. They seemed to like the 12 nest aluminum Martin house with collapsilble pole I gave them.
Home about 2:30 – threw darts at Dave’s new board from Mary & Ken. Read picture history book that had been Mother’s and annotated it. Will give to David H. Made pizza – scrambled eggs in my gift – made chili for tomorrow and washed.

High 62 – partly sunny
Asked Dave to wash my car – did a sloppy job.
Took Dave in at 9:15 – Deliveries very sparse. Kathi called – has bronchitis – temp 103.
Went to Gloria Marshall 1st time for an hr. Had first check – Lost 6 ¾ inches & 2 lbs in two weeks. Back to shop for Christmas Party. Trays of food from Kroger. Laura Goodwin’s last day. Her husband’s father invested in a flower shop in Mt. Victory for her to run.
Dave & I took 8 deliveries east & home about 2:230. He was paid $67 for 6 ½ days “jumping.”*
Back in at 4 to visit mother. She wouldn’t eat her supper. Then to Mary’s for our traditional Christmas Eve dinner. She had beef & noodles, mashed potatoes, corn, cranberry salad & pumpkin pie. Ken gave her a 16” gold chain & a hot air popcorn popper. She gave him a band saw & socket wrenches. They gave me a desk organizer (drawers) and an egg scrambler that scrambles and egg in the shell!
Back home Dave opened his “Mad Magazines” cartoon book & laughed all evening. Had a $25 check – C’mas cards from Shorty & Charles Wooten.

Didn’t expect Mary Longacre to pick Dave up until 9 to go to work at Hemmerly’s but she was here at 8 – So I took him in at 10 – got gas $1.159, picked up $100 check from MCHS at Irma Campbells & admired her C’mas ornaments. Took check to Elizabeth James to buy Marion County Histories for the Society. Also got her original 1883 for $72.50 to sell to Sickel in Texas. Chatted with her about her husband’s Issler ancestors who came also from near Maulbron. To Gloria Marshall for ½ hr. Tried to buy watch for Mother – large numerals – didn’t have it. Home to wrap presents.
